Members from All Saints and from the Prestbury Parish at St Mary's and St Nicolas work together to produce a rolling programme of events throughout the year, including short courses, one-off events and opportunities to take time out for Retreat or Quiet Day activities. The Bible Study Group has continued to meet at 7pm in All Saints on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, followed by Compline at 8pm. (or Said Eucharist on 4th Tuesdays). During the Autumn, the group has had a “whale of a time” with Jonah and have now returned to their study of St Matthew's Gospel. Bible Reading also received a boost from Rachel Murray, who led a successful morning offering encouragement and advice to current and prospective Lesson Readers from All Saints. Activities for children and young people have continued through the regular weekly programme in term time at St Nicolas' and were also prominent throughout the Summer, beginning with the successful ‘Going Up’ Ascensiontide event at Up Hatherley,. Our own ‘Parables Activity Day’ and ‘360 Active’ holiday project attracted young people from across the North Cheltenham Area and a large group also camped at the racecourse for the duration of the Greenbelt Festival. Their Autumn event at St Nicolas, attracted wide-support, with Father Michael making an unscheduled appearance in a suit of newspaper! When the Education Group began to look at 2008, it came as something of a shock to discover that we would barely have recovered from our Team-wide Epiphany carols before finding ourselves in Lent. It was a much greater shock to learn that Father Tim had been taken ill on Christmas Eve - and it took a team of four people from across the Team to replace him!. They worked together at short notice to produce a successful event at St Nicolas' on Epiphany Sunday. Lent Planning too was thrown into disarray, when Hilary Brand's book to accompany the film of Narnia failed to be published in time for this year. Once again, York Courses have come to our rescue with a new Study of the Lord's Prayer, but next year we really do hope to be in Narnia! Brian Torode's presentation on Pigrimage and Medieval Gloucester has been postponed until April, when we hope that the heating at All Saints will be fully-functioning. The Team Quiet Day will be held at Nympsfield on Saturday 10th May - the weekend of Pentecost. There really will be Spirit in the Air. |
