Father David is Assistant Curate in the North Cheltenham Team and was ordained Deacon in Gloucester Cathedral in June of 2008. He recently returned to the Cathedral to be ordained priest by Bishop Michael. David writes:

At 27, I'm currently the youngest ordained minister in the Diocese of Gloucester. This does not mean my journey to priesthood has been simple or particularly short, however. Born in Troon, near Prestwick in Scotland, one of the homes of golf, I spent the first part of my life living in various Scottish towns and cities. While there, I worshipped in the (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland.

In 1992, however, my Dad's work for the railways moved us south of the border, and we began attending our local Anglican church: a matter of geography rather than theology! As I grew in years and in my sense of faith, I decided to be baptised and then confirmed, and it was while sitting alone in the church, waiting for my confirmation service to begin, that I first felt God's call to ministry. The words of confirmation have a certain resonance with those of ordination: 'David, God has called you by name...'. I had no clear idea at the time quite what God was calling me into, but I knew I wanted to respond.

Eventually, I approached my parish priest and the then Diocesan Director of Ordination, Mike Parsons, who set me on a course to explore vocation at St Matthew's, Westminster. While there I grew to know something of what parish ministry is, and also to an understanding of the sacramental model of church, which really helped me understand my calling to the Priesthood. I was selected for ordination training in 2005 and attended Westcott House in Cambridge before coming to serve my title post here in the North Cheltenham Team Ministry.
